5 things to do immediately after being injured in an auto accident

If injured in an auto accident, there are several important steps to take immediately after an accident. Provided you are able, always do the following:

  1. Report the accident immediately to the police. They will conduct an initial investigation that should include accident reconstruction, documenting evidence, and the interviewing of witnesses.
  2. Record the names and contact information of all witnesses to the accident before they leave the scene and take pictures of the accident. This will help ensure the full value of your insurance claim.
  3. If you experience any pain at all, go directly to the hospital or doctor.
  4. If you are seriously injured, wait for paramedics to arrive to examine you.
  5. Notify your insurance company as soon as you are able. But remember, never begin the settlement negotiation process until you are fully recovered.

When choosing a physician to treat with, make sure he works well with attorneys

There seems to be an unwritten rule in the medical community, NEVER WORK WITH ATTORNEYS BECAUSE THEY ARE BAD FOR BUSINESS. Although there may be some truth to that statement, the fact remains that at some point, you may need to hire an attorney to help you with your personal injury claim if the insurance company does not want to play nice. If that time ever comes, it would be nice if your treating physician and the attorney are on the same page.

Most medical professionals will tell you that working with attorneys has caused them nothing but trouble. Think about it, medical professionals carry medical malpractice insurance and why is that? Because they get sued by attorneys. Its as if they are born to be enemies. What is the difference between special damages and general damages

When negotiating your personal injury claim with the insurance adjuster, it boils down to how much you value your personal injury claim vs. how much the insurance company values your injury claim. It’s really quite simply, you were injured and had your life adversely affected by the negligence of some other driver. You incurred medical expenses and other costs due to your injury (aka. special damages). On top of that, you were unable to perform some of your normal daily activities and may have missed out on what life had to offer you during those months you were injured (aka. general damages or pain and suffering). When you add the value of your special damages along with your general damages, you get the value of your personal injury claim.

We are now entering week 4 of my wife’s injury claim. At this point, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take our Free Crash Evaluatorâ„¢ and find out what kind of an injury claim we are looking at. Keep in mind that her injury can still change and I will probably have to take the Crash Evaluator again after she has completed treatment if her injury gets worse of any of the variables to her personal injury case change.

The $750 offer to get our file off of his desk

This is part of our continued coverage on my wife’s injury claim with Progressive

Since the accident my wife was in happened on a Friday afternoon, we weren’t able to get in contact with the adjuster until after the weekend. On Monday morning, I called over to Progressive to set up the claim and talk with the adjuster. After giving him the details that I wanted to give him and being light on details on the ones he wanted, he asked if he could set up an appointment to meet with my wife. I said that would be fine and we scheduled an appointment for Wednesday.

Wednesday came and my wife and I were driving to meet with the adjuster. I took a few minutes in the car to give my wife some pointers so that she would be prepared for what the adjuster was going to ask her. I could have predicted the conversation any better than I did. In fact, you can call me Nostradamus because the adjuster was word for word on what I told my wife to expect. The key points of the conversation went as follows with some inserted commentary for your benefit:
