Part of our weekly series of case studies of recent car accident settlements. These case studies should help you determine the market value of your personal injury insurance claim. The finer details have been kept out to protect the identity of the individual, but the overall details are accurate and true.
Case Study
Gender: Female
Age: 20’s
Type of accident: Rear-ended by the at-fault driver at stop light.
At-fault insurance company: Progressive
Type of medical care: Ambulance to the ER with follow up chiropractic treatment
Length of treatment: 1 month total.
Settlement amount: Her total money offer (medical bills and pain and suffering) was 1.66 times the total medical bills.
Example: $3,000 in medical bills times 1.66 equals a $4,980 total money settlement from Progressive.
Things to note: Anytime you are ambulanced from the accident to the ER, your claim should hold more value than those that don’t. This is not always the case, but it does show the impact and injury were severe enough that you had to be transported to the hospital. In this case, the female wanted to settle rather than go to court and therefore she probably left some money on the table. However, going to court can be a lengthy process so the female probably needed the money right away rather than have it tied up for a year or more in a court setting before getting her award.
