The hardest thing about negotiating your injury settlement claim will be dealing with a jaded adjuster from the insurance company. You are the one that went through the hassle and troubles of the accident and the adjuster will be another piece adding to your pain and suffering. Why is it that some adjuster are such a pain in the rear to deal with?

Think about their job description: to deny any fraudulent claims and to evaluate legitimate injury claims and pay out as little as possible on those claims. Let’s break this down and give you a better understanding why the job in and of itself creates a jaded adjuster.

To deny fraudulent claims – Because your first responsibility is to deny fraudulent claims, you automatically think every claim is fraudulent. It’s not until the claim has proven to you that it’s legit that you move onto the next step of evaluating the claim.

To evaluate legitimate injury claims and pay out as little as possible on those claims – Once the claim has proven to you that it’s legit, your next job is to pay out as little as possible. This is because you want to be good at your job and want to get promotions so you can get raises. Why would they promote you if you pay out more than your co-workers? The insurance companies want to promote employees that make them more money. The only way to make more money is to pay out less in claims.

Understanding the job will help you understand how some adjusters can become jaded and biased towards your claim. Not all adjusters are jaded, but a lot are. Some have been in accidents themselves and believe your injuries and some just don’t care about moving up the corporate ladder, but chances are you will have to deal with a jaded adjuster along the way. Even if you don’t have to deal directly with a jaded adjuster, their supervisor is likely jaded (remember, they promote the most jaded of all adjusters) and they will have to try to justify to their superiors why they are paying out on your claim.

The system creates a workplace of jaded perspectives and you will need to be on top of your game to be successful in negotiating your injury claim. Being sloppy will only cost you money.
